Carlton Boys Notch First Win

The Carlton Bulldogs Boys basketball team picked a 46-44 win over Cook County at home Friday night. Mathew Lund hit a shot with only seconds remaining to give Carlton their first win of the season and also their first Polar League conference win of the year.


The Bulldogs win is only their fifth win over the past fifty some games. The win was also their first win over Cook County since 2008. The Bulldogs were playing as part of a boys and girls doubleheader at Carlton High School.


The Bulldogs had held a six point 25-19 lead at halftime, but the second half saw the Vikings come back tie the game which set up the last second hook shot by Lund that sealed the first win of the year.


Lund was also the games leading scorer finishing with a game high 16 points on the night. Teammate Erik Adams added 10 points, Kodie Peterson scored 8, Dakota Freer added 4, Marc Shoberg added 3, and Nick Vacura closed out the scoring with 2 points.


Cook County was led by Dylan Quaife who had 15 points in the loss. David Bergstrom scored 10, Collin Evenson added 9, and Ryan Martinson added 7, Mike Sjogren had 2, and rounding out the scoring for the Vikings was Kale Boomer with 1 point.


The Bulldogs improve to 1-9 overall on the season and the will be in action again Monday when the host AlBrook-Cotton at home. Cook County falls to 4-3; they will host Silver Bay on Tuesday night in Grand Marais.
