MN North Tryouts Tomorrow

DULUTH, Minn— The Minnesota North Volleyball Club will be holding tryouts for grades 9-12 tomorrow, Sunday, November 9th, at the Marshall School in Duluth. Registration begins at 9:00 a.m., followed by player evaluation and team selections from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for all players trying out for a National or Select team. There is a $10 fee for all players trying out for National or Select teams, and everyone trying out will receive a Minnesota North T-Shirt.

Minnesota North team categories are split into National, Select, and Club.

National team’s goals are to qualify for either the USA National Volleyball Championships, or the AAU National Championships in Orlando, Florida each year. National teams play most of their tournaments in the Twin Cities area. Players interested in playing college volleyball are encouraged to try out for National’s teams as college coaches attend most tournaments. Each year from Minnesota North 18’s National team have received scholarships to play volleyball. Coaches for the National teams are often college coaches such as Christyn May, UMD Assistant Volleyball Coach.

Select Teams play about half their tournaments in the Twin Cities area, the rest are local. These teams end their season with a large tournament such as Prep Volleyball Classic or MN Star of the North state games. Coaches of the Select Teams are usually local high school volleyball coaches. Players interested in playing for Select Teams are encouraged to attend the National team tryout.

Club Teams play only in local tournaments (Duluth, Superior, Cloquet, Iron Range areas). Coaches for club teams are usually former college volleyball players. There are no try outs for Club Teams, just sign up and play.

Last years National Teams include Molly Trapp from Esko and Bailey Romans from Duluth East, both have committed to playing Division I volleyball at South Dakota State University; Alex Oakes of Cloquet who has committed to University of Minnesota-Crookston; Sidney Mattson from Grand Rapids who has committed to University of North Dakota.

Jess Stanslaski, Macy Belich, and Hannah Benson from Carlton, who’s team advanced to the Minnesota State Volleyball Tournament this year. Justice Janke, Marriah Janke, and Lily Price from South Ridge; And Alexa Sinner and Hailey Menzel from Hermantown, who’s teams made it to the High School Section Finals. Sami Westendorf of Cloquet and Brielle Wills of Northeast Range who’s team made it to the Section Semi-Finals.

Others include: Karrine Houser of Esko, Maddie Keute of Grand Rapids, Daisy Hoops and Marissa Mielke from Duluth East; Meredith and Linden Sutton from Cook County; Lily Kleine and Nicole Sorenson from Superior; Kate Kleinschmidt and Aleksie Rengel from Duluth Marshall; Lauren Huchel of Duluth Denfeld; And Abigail Rohweder from Proctor.
