Cloquet Boys Fall to Northwestern 60-46

The Cloquet Boys Basketball team continued to struggle Tuesday night as the Tigers of Northwestern defeated the Lumberjacks at home by a score of 60-46. The Tigers jumped out to an early first half lead of 27-18 and went on to win by fourteen points in this interstate match-up.


Dane Kiehn put the Lumberjacks in front to start the game at 2-0 off a missed shot for Cloquet; he grabbed the rebound and put it back in to the early lead. But that was the last time Cloquet held the lead as the Tigers then jumped out to a 7-2 lead after they scored the next five points.


The Tigers extended the lead to as many as fourteen points in the first half but Cloquet cut the lead to nine points right before halftime. The second half saw the Tigers again extend their lead as they built up a nineteen point lead late in the game but Cloquet cut the final margin to fourteen.


The Lumberjacks assisted the Tigers Tuesday by committing 29 turnovers in the loss at home compared to only 7 for the Tigers. The Lumberjacks did do an amazing job as they out rebounded the Tigers by a 44-26 margin. Andy Wappes led all rebounders with thirteen for the game.


The Lumberjacks were led in scoring by Dane Kiehn, who finished with 14 points on the night, Wappes added 11 points, Zach Peterson finished with 9, Maxx Brenner finished with 5, James Counselor ended with 3, Cody Stevens and Sean Ferrell both ended with 2 points in the loss.


Cloquet is back in action again Thursday night at home when the host Hibbing at 7:30pm. The game came be heard on Legends Rock K-96.5 fm.
