After getting shutout by the Superior Spartans in the first game of the Hilltopper Classic Hockey Tournament on Tuesday, the Proctor Rails rebounded in a big way with a 9-3 thumping of Madison Edgewood on Wednesday afternoon in Duluth.

The normally high-scoring rails stalled out on offense against the Spartans, but they reloaded and demolished Madison by scoring five goals in the first period as they pulled out to a 5-1 lead. Tom Rossiter, Cody Gauthier, Frank Katzmarek, Gauthier again and Patrick Everson all scored in the amazing first period.

Proctor added two goals each in the second and third periods to take the victory.

For the game Gauthier notched the hat trick, while Ryan McCarthy made 19 saves in the nets for the Rails.

Proctor closed out the tournament with a 2-1 record including a 4-3 overtime win over Delano en route to capturing the third place trophy.
