Hawks Fall in Shootout

The Hermantown Hawks bid to make a trip to the state girls soccer tournament ended Thursday night when the Princeton Tigers defeated the Hawks by a score of 2-1 (4-2) in shootout at Public Schools Stadium in Duluth.

The Princeton Tigers scored first in the section final taking a 1-0 lead 2 minutes into the match when Taylor Laabs scored with an assist going to Alanna Mattson.  The score remained 1-0 until the second half when Callie Hoff scored to tied the contest at 1-1.

With the match tied at 1-1 both teams played two overtime periods where each team was unable to score, it came down to a shootout and the Tigers would best the Hawks 4-2 in the shootout and capture their  1st sectional title and their first trip to the state tournament.

The Tiger improve to 18-1 on the season and they will start state tournament action next Thursday in St. Cloud and they will face Hill-Murray. The Hawks season comes to an end with a overall record of 15-3-1 and section 7A runners up for the second consecutive season.

Second half — 2. H, Callie Hoff, 24th.

First overtime — No scoring.

Second overtime — No scoring.
