Two teams that had only one win each on the season got a chance to secure their second victory of the season on Friday night when the Barnum Bombers hosted Ogilvie in a Great Polar Red Conference high school football game. Barnum used three touchdowns by Mitchell Weller to help nab an impressive 45-20 win, and better yet, improve to 2-1 in conference play.

Barnum rode a quick start to a 16-0 first quarter lead and 32-0 halftime lead. Chris Carlson slashed into the end zone in the first quarter from seven yards out making it 8-0 following the Weller to Carlson conversion pass. Weller followed as he rambled in from nine yard away making it 16-0 after he tacked on the two-point conversion run.

In the second quarter it was more Barnum as Nathan Jelinek blocked a punt in the end zone and then pounced on the bounding ball for a touchdown making it 24-0 after a two-point conversion run by Carlson. The Bombers pushed the lead to 32-0 before the half when Weller hauled in a pass from Carlson and slipped into the end zone and the same duo hooked up for a two-point conversion pass to pad the lead entering intermission.

In the third quarter the Bombers added another Weller score, this time on a two-yard touchdown plunge, but the failed on the conversion kick making it 38-0. Ogilvie answered with a score of their own by Zach Peterson, but before the third quarter ended the Bombers added yet another touchdown this time on a Colton Ziegler four-yard run. Weller booted home the extra point making it 45-6.

Ogilvie added a pair of late scores, but by then the damage was done and the Bombers had already secured the win.

Barnum improved to 2-5 overall and 2-1 in the conference, while Ogilvie falls to 1-6 over all and 1-2 in the conference.
