Wednesday’s game in Spooner started out well for the Duluth Clydesdales. Out of the gates they had more jump in their steps than recent games, and played well against the boards. However, after a tough third period the Clydesdales ended up on the losing end of a 7-1 score when the game ended.

With the exception of a fluke goal by Donnie Roberts sliding into Clydesdales goalie Derek Robinson with the puck ending up in the Duluth net, the first period was played evenly, with Duluth outshooting Wisconsin 12-11.

A slightly weaker second put Duluth down 3-0, with Christian Belobaba and Nathan Paulson notching goals in the middle frame.

It was the third period where things fell apart for Duluth. Despite starting the third with a superior effort and carrying the play to the Wilderness at the beginning of the period, the Wilderness won out. Four more Wilderness shooters, (Andrew Anderson, Dawson Kuhlmann, Bryce Anderson, and Wilson Housley) put pucks past Robinson, who saved 36 of 44 in the loss. A power play goal by Duluth newcomer Jake Ransom spoiled the shutout bid for Wisconsin netminder John McLean, who stopped 30 for the win.

The Clydesdales and the SIJHL as a whole goes on a holiday break, with the next game having the Fort Frances Lakers visit Duluth New Year’s Eve.
