Wrenshall Boys Come Close But Fall In OT

The Wrenshall Wrens are continue working to find their balance this season as again on Friday night the Wrens fell to the Agates of Two Harbors in a Polar League Battle. A Wrenshall seven point halftime lead was erased as the Agates came back hard in the second half and the game would be tied at the end of regulation.


The Agates outscored the Wrens 6-1 in the overtime stanza to take the game by a final score of 74-69. The Wrens have been competitive and have come close but they dropped their fourth straight game on the season and their second in two nights as they lost to AlBrook in Saginaw on Thursday.


The Wrens, a young team featuring only one lone senior has battled through the first four games of the season and Senior Brett Johnson has been making his mark felt. Johnson is one of the area’s leading scorers averaging 28 points per game. Johnson has 18 three-pointers on this young season as well.


Friday night saw Johnson explode again as he finished with a game high 31 points in the Wrens loss, he also hit three 3-pointers in the game. Sophomore Derek Duncan added 21 points, also nailing 3 three-pointers in the loss.


The rest of the Wrenshall scoring was Jack Dolter, who finished with 11 points. Mitch Frank contributed 5, and Junior Center Peter Granholm rounded out the Wrenshall scoring with 1 point on the night.


Alex Horoshak netted 23 points for Two Harbors, Jon McDannold added 19, and Jon Horoshak finished with 10 as the Agates win at home. The Two Harbors victory was the first of the season as they now improve to 1-3 overall.


The Wrenshall Wrens will close out their 2010 portion of the schedule with a home contest Tuesday night against Polar League rival McGregor. The Wrens will not be in action over the Holiday break but will return to action again Tuesday January 4th at Esko.
