Coming off an impressive win over Finlandia in their previous contest, the UW-Superior women’s soccer team headed south looking for a sweep of their current two-game road trip against the Lakeland Muskies Saturday afternoon.

The Yellowjackets did just that, getting a goal from freshman forward Katrina Gephart (Roseville, Minn./Roseville Area) in the 94th minute to pull out a 1-0 overtime victory before returning home to face Finlandia on Monday.

In winning their second straight game, UW-Superior improved to 2-4-1 on the season while Lakeland fell to 2-6 with the loss.

The two teams battled through a hard-fought first half, resulting in a scoreless draw heading into the intermission.

Matters remained scoreless through regulation as the Muskies held a 7-3 edge in shots during the second 45 minutes of play.

The Yellowjackets finally broke through during the first overtime session when Gephart, who started at forward alongside Rachel Wallace (Anaheim, Calif./Magnolia), scored her first career-goal at 94:33 of the extra session to give UW-Superior the victory.

Bailey Henderson (Oakdale, Minn./North St. Paul) picked up the victory in goal for UW-Superior, stopping eight shots to notch her second-straight shutout.

Offensively, the Yellowjackets were paced by Katelyn Adams (Two Harbors, Minn./Two Harbors) with three shots.

Lakeland was led by Maddy Schone-Knoll and Tiffany Fischer, who each had three shots for the Muskies.  Jessica Carter took the loss in goal for Lakeland with three saves.

UW-Superior will make its season-debut at Yellowjacket Field when they host the Lions on Monday.  Opening kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
