2014 UW-River Fall Invitational
Hosted by UW-River Falls
River Falls, Wis.
Meet Results – Team   Individual

For the Yellowjacket men’s cross country team, the 2013 season was one of the best in school history. Constant improvement throughout the season led to the Yellowjackets to an eighth place finish in the WIAC and a 12th place finish at the NCAA Midwest Regional, the highest ranking in school history. The key for 2014 is to build on that momentum and continue the improvement that started a year ago.

The Yellowjackets took a big step in that direction in their first meet of the season Saturday.

With solid times from top to bottom, the Yellowjackets earned just 50 points, which was good enough for second place at the 2014 UW-River Falls Invitational. The Yellowjackets placed behind only UW-Stevens Point, who won the event with 26 points.

But while the Pointers won the team portion of the meet, it was a Yellowjacket who came home with first place honors.

Junior Charles Corbett (Park Falls, Wis./Chequamegon) came out on top in a mad dash to the finish line to bring home the title with a time of 25:44.1. Corbett finished four seconds ahead of the second place finisher, Alexander Gonzales of UW-Stevens Point. Just 12 seconds after Corbett won the race, the second Yellowjacket crossed the line as Jackson Lindquist (Thomson, Minn./Esko) finished with a time of 25:56.3, good enough for fourth place. Just over a minute later a pair of Yellowjackets came across within a fraction of a second of one another, with Cam Tiberg (Forest, Wis./Glenwood City) and Jordan Koski (Park Falls, Wis./Chequamegon) finishing 14th and 15th, respectively.

“Our men’s team is a veteran team. They all know that we lost Scott (Behling) from last year and that people were going to have to step up, and today they did. It was a great way for them to open the season,” Yellowjacket Head Coach Glen Drexler said. “I like that my top five all placed within 90 seconds of each other, and I think if we can bring a few more of our young runners along, we have a chance to really make people take notice. It’s going to be an exciting year for this group.”
