With basketball season just around the corner, Esko High School hosted a twelve team jamboree on Saturday.

The 2010 Minnesota Class A champion Barnum Bombers appeared ready to defend their state title, playing the 3A Grand Rapids Thunderhawks to a 25-25 tie. Jessica Newman displayed the same playmaking ability that her sister Katrina used in leading the Bombers to a state championship last year. Katie Myhre had her 3-point shot working well from the outside, a combination that should serve the Bombers well. Barnum opens their season on Nov 30 at Cromwell.

The host Esko Eskomos fell by a single point 28-27 to the Hermantown Hawks. These two teams provided plenty of excitement when they met last year with Esko coming out on top by a score of 68-60. Look for more of the same when they meet this season on January 24. Hermantown opens their season on November 30 when they travel to Grand Rapids while Esko opens at home against Floodwood on December 2.

Other scores from the tourney were Aitkin over Moose Lake-Willow River 45-15, Crosby-Ironton 43 Cook County 11, Floodwood 41 Deer River 18, and Two Harbors over Proctor by a score of 27-14.
