Twice during the high school volleyball season the Cloquet Lumberjacks had defeated Hermantown. The last time was two weeks ago when the Jacks dethroned the Hawks as Lake Superior Conference in a win at Cloquet. It was a different story on Wednesday night as the Hawks downed Cloquet 3-0 in the Section 7AA semifinals played at UMD.

Not only did Hermantown beat Cloquet, but they played an intense match that saw them win easily in two of the three games. The Hawks won by scores of 25-11, 25-22 and 25-16 in taking the win.

Cloquet struggled to find a way to stop Stephanie Kallberg who smashed 14 kills in the match, while Mary Neumann added eight kills for the Hawks. Hermantown got a 23-set assist performance from setter Andrea Enockson in picking up the victory. Also key to the three set victory were the countless blocks by the Hawks front line.

The Lumberjacks Got 11-kills from Maddie Kiehn and a couple of blocks from Emily Fossen, but the inability to get the ball on the floor stymied the Cloquet chances.

One bright spot for the Lumberjcks was Liebero Kierra Johnson going over the 1000 dig mark. Johnson finished her
career at CHS with 1008 digs.

Hermantown will move on to play Esko for the championship on Saturday at 8:00pm at Romano Gym at UMD.
