Duluth East Falls Short Of State

The Duluth East Greyhounds matched up with the Elk River Elks on Thursday night. The Greyhounds came into the game having to win twice to make it to the state tournament and they put themselves in the right position when they won the first game 10-3. The second game, the Greyhounds fell 3-2 in a heartbreaker after errors cost Duluth East the game.

In game one, Lucas Hedin got the victory, pitching 6.2 innings, allowing three runs on eight hits and striking out three. Wes Anderson hit a homer that drove in two runs in the win. Chris Olson also had a nice day at the plate going 2-4 with a double and triple with an RBI. Jordan Hollom took the loss for Elk River and Mylo Hommes propelled the offense by going 3-3 with a home run and two RBI’s.

In game two, Chris Olson took the loss after pitching 7 innings, allowing three runs on four hits and striking out nine. Olson went 2-2 on the offensive side and Frankie Hanson went 2-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Erik Nyquist got the win for Elk River after pitching 7 innings, giving up seven hits and two runs, and striking out four. Andrew McMillan went 2-3 with an RBI in the win.

Duluth East ends their season as the Section 7AAA runners-up and with a 17-8 record. Elk River is also 17-8 on the year and will advance to the Class AAA state tournament.
