Cloquet Tops Marshall In 11 Innings

In Cloquet’s final home game of the season, Duluth Marshall gave them a run for their money. Both teams battled back and forth to push it into extra innings and it was the Lumberjacks that would win it in the bottom of the 11th the secure the win.

Gavin Takkunen recorded the win by pitching 3 shutout innings, allowing 3 hits while striking out 2. The offense was led by Brandon Conklin who went 3-5 with 2 doubles and 2 runs batted in. Austin Gotchnik went 2-3 with a double and an RBI, and Nate Weets and Takkunen each recorded an RBI in the win.

Taking the loss for the Hilltoppers was Jordan Fralich who pitched 2.2 innings, allowing 2 runs on 1 hit and walked 4. The offense for the Hilltoppers was led by Tony Perralla who went 2-4 with a double and an RBI. Alex Johnson also went 2-5 and drove in a run, along with Tyler Pederson, and John Hanson driving in one run a piece.

Cloquets record heading into playoffs is 9-5 as they secured the top seed in their subsection and will look to play the winner of Pine City of Crosby-Ironton. Duluth Marshall is 7-7 going into the playoffs and will play the top seeded Hermantown Hawks in the first round of the playoffs.
