In the Section 7A playoffs, there have been some close games and some blowouts, but they are heading into the home stretch of the run to state.

The playoffs kicked off with Littlefork-Big Falls, South Ridge, Ely, Carlton, Greenway, Silver Bay, Nashwauk-Keewatin, and Cherry advancing past the first round.

Littlefork-Big Falls kicked the day off with a 10-4 victory over South Ridge. Brooke Millerbernd was the winning pitcher, going the distance, allowing 4 runs on 7 hits and striking out 3. DyAna Imhof propelled the offense by going 2-4 with a double and triple and tallied 3RBIs.

Carlton followed that game with a 10-1 victory over Ely. Grace Macor took home the victory by striking out 14 in 7 innings pitched. Macy Belich and Tori Anderson powered the offense by snagging 2 hits a piece and contributing 5 RBI’s combined in the victory.

Carlton and Littlefork would then match up and it would be the top seeded Vikings that would come out victorious, 13-8. Millerbernd took the victory in this game as well, pitching 7 innings and allowing 8 runs. Macor took the loss while striking out 10. Brianna Walton went 4-4 in the loss and Hannah Benson went 2-4 and drove in 3 runs.

Cherry would win both of their games on the day, topping Nashwauk first 7-0, followed by toppling Greenway 15-2. Kacey Herring took the victories in both games, pitching 7 innings and striking out 11 against Nashwauk and then pitching 5 innings and racking up 6 K’s against Greenway. Joely Roberts totaled 7 RBI’s in the wins which would power the offense.

In other games, Silver Bay fell to Greenway 9-8 and then lost to Nashwauk later in the day, 8-5, to end their season. South Ridge followed their loss to Littlefork-Big Falls with a 8-5 win over Ely to secure their date with Greenway in a win or go home situation. Also, the Carlton Bulldogs will square off with Nashwauk, also in a win or go home game.

The Section 7A playoffs will continue on May 27th, with the first games starting at noon in Cohasset.
