Barnum & ML-WR Compete In Duluth East Tournament

The Barnum Bombers and the Moose Lake-Willow River Volleyball teams played Saturday in the Duluth East Invitational Volleyball Tournament at Duluth East High School. Moose Lake-Willow River and Barnum, playing against much larger schools played their pool play games tough but ended up on the short end of pool play and both teams played in the loser’s bracket pool.


The Bombers played their opening pool match-up versus Duluth East and fell 25-11, and 25-14. The second match in pool play saw the Bombers fall to Cambridge-Isanti 19-25, 25-21, and 15-7. The last opponent in pool play was Forrest Lake and the Bombers lost two close games 25-14 and 26-24.


The Rebels opened pool play with a loss to Anoka, 25-11 and 25-14 were the scores. The second match saw three hard fought three game loss to Hill Murray 25-13, 23-25, and 15-8 were the scores in the loss to the Pioneers. The third match the Rebels fell to Greenway 25-17, and 25-13.


Both the Rebels and the Bombers then were put in the lower pool. Barnum’s first match was a win against Chisago Lakes in three games. Chisago Lakes won the first game 25-17, but the Bombers bounced back and won the next two 25-22 and 15-11. Barnum then faced the Rebels and again it was a three game match. The Rebels took the first game by a score of 25-17, but again the Bomber bounced back and won the next two games 25-22 and 15-11.


With the win the Bombers finish 2-3 in the tournament and finish in 9th place. The Rebels after falling to Barnum faced Chisago Lakes in the tenth place contest and it was the Wildcats winning in two straight games 25-14 and 25-23. The Rebels finished 0-5 in the tournament and was the eleventh place finisher.


Hill Murray was the tournament Champion, followed by Anoka in second place, Duluth East was third and Washburn Wisconsin placed 4th. Grand Rapids was 5th; Cambridge-Isanti was 6th, Green way 7th, and Forrest Lake finished in 8th place.
