Acting as a human battering ram, Stefan Pease, continually pounded into the Eveleth-Gilbert defensive line in Friday nights Cloquet football win over the Golden Bears. Pease rushed for 179 yards and the Lumberjacks defeated E-G 28-6 at Rol Bromberg Field.

After a scoreless first quarter the Lumberjacks got a 1-yard touchdown run from Pease with 10:20 remaining in the first half to take a 6-0 lead. A couple of series later the Jacks sacked E-G in the end zone for a safety taking an 8-0 lead with 5:43 left in the second quarter. After the Golden Bears were required to kick off to the Jacks from their own 20-yard line it was Pease again scoring, this time on an 8-yard rumble, and quarterback Kellin Lamirande followed with the two point conversion making it 16-0 at intermission.

Early in the third quarter Pease added a 25-yard touchdown run making it 22-0, but the Golden Bears responded by taking the following kickoff back for a touchdown that traveled 82-yards. Dalton Johnson, of E-G, cut through the Cloquet kick coverage and outraced the Jacks defenders for the score.

The Lumberjacks closed the scoring with 4:32 left in the third quarter Lamirande found Adam Hanson in the corner of the end zone for a touchdown pushing the lead to 28-6 and that’s how things stayed the rest of the way.

Cloquet finished with 15 first downs compared to only 1 for the Golden Bears. Offensively the Jacks had 256-yards of total offense compared to only 59 for E-G.

With the win the Jacks even their record at 1-1, they will be back in action on Friday when they travel to Virginia to take on the Bluedevils.
