ESKO – A quick start helped the Esko Eskomo football team gain their first win of the season when they ran past Cook County 30-6 in Esko on Friday night.

The Eskomos scored a pair of first-quarter touchdowns and then cruised to a 22-0 halftime lead en-route to the win.

Junior quarterback Max Reinertson showed his speed for Esko early in the first quarter when he scored on a 69-yard touchdown gallop to give the Eskomos a 6-0 lead. Jesse Lonetto tacked on the 2-point conversion run and it was 8-0. Before the quarter ended the Eskomos scored again, this time on a 15-yard run by Reinertson and again they added the conversion run by Lonetto for a 16-0 lead.

The only score of the second quarter came when Reinertson showed his blazing speed by scoring on a 90-yard dash and at halftime the score was 22-0 in favor of the Eskomos.

Cook County finally got on the scoreboard in the third quarter when they took the opening kickoff and mounted a drive that took most of the third quarter. Peter Warren plunged in from the 1-yard line to cap the drive, but they were unable to add the conversion run and the score stood 22-6.

Esko ended the scoring in the fourth quarter when Reinertson, who rushed for 221 yards on the night, scampered in from the 11-yard line for his fourth touchdown of the night. Justin Hammann added the conversion run for a 30-6 win.

After the game, Esko head coach Bill Hudspith
commented to NSO that they noticed some things in the Cook County defense that allowed them to use Reinertson, “they were moving from an even to an odd front, which we picked up on.” Hudspith explained.
Hudspith also praised Reinertson for his efforts on the evening, “He is an explosive runner and quite an athlete.”

All tolled, the Eskomos racked up 341 yards rushing and another 41 through the air for 382 total yards. Cook County rushed for 189 yards and passed for 54 yards, totaling 243 yards of offense.

Peter Warren ran for 117 yards and Dylan Quaife rushed for 48 yards on the night for the Vikings.

Esko will be back in action on Friday when they travel to Braham to take on the Bombers.
