ESKO – Things didn’t exactly start the way the Esko-Carlton girls soccer team had planned in their game against Proctor on Thursday afternoon. Just 10-minutes into their first game of the season the Eskomos, who are playing with a new goaltender this season, found themselves down 1-0 after a penalty shot. E-C managed to pull themselves together and rebounded to win 3-2.

E-C goalie, Rachel Ofstie, who is a junior, was making her first high school start in place of longtime goalie Emily Johnson who graduated last year. Minutes into the game the Rails had a player taken down allowing for a penalty kick by Maria Palen and suddenly it was a 1-0 lead for Proctor.

The Eskomos bounced back from their early adversity by notching a goal in the 18th minute by Alyssa Rodlund with Hillary Anderson picking up the assist. Shortly after the Rodlund goal Esko had a chance for the lead when they were awarded a penalty kick of their own. Proctor’s goalkeeper came out and stopped a ball that was just beyond the goal box, but helped her own cause by stopping the penalty kick and the score was 1-1 at halftime.

Caitlin Lilly gave the Eskomos a 2-1 lead in the 58th minute with Brooke Schramm assisting and just three minutes later it was 3-1 after a goal by Anderson for the Eskomos with Tori Zime assisting.

Proctor fought back with a goal in the 67th minute, but the Eskomo defense and the goaltending of Ofstie held the Rails in check the rest of the way to take the early season win.
