Sunday night brought to a close the 2010 points chase at the Proctor Speedway with several classes coming down to the wire providing some exciting racing action.

The 2010 Late Model track championship came down to a pair of Iron Rangers. Kyle Peterlin of Hibbing entered Sunday night’s feature race just a single point behind Harry Hanson of Eveleth. Peterlin, who has been on a tear lately, finished second to Ricky Weiss who made the long trip down from Headingly, Manitoba. Hanson meanwhile finished in sixth place giving Peterlin the single digit points championship win.

Modified racing was not as close in the points chase, but exciting none the less. Darrell Nelson won the nonstop feature while Kelly Estey drove to a sixth place finish and the 2010 Modified points championship. Estey entered the night 16 points ahead of Ryan Aho. Aho finished the feature two spots ahead of Estey in fourth place, but nowhere near enough to make a difference in the season points.

Super Stocks was another class that took until the final night to see a champion crowned. Jeff Tardy led Kevin Eder by eight points heading into Sundays final night of racing. Tardy ran a strong race, finishing second while Eder finished ninth giving Tardy the points win.

Skeeter Estey entered the Midwest Modified feature in pretty good shape. Estey went into the feature up 15 points. With 18 cars in the feature, Estey had to finish just three spots up from the back of the pack to collect the track championship. Leaving nothing to chance however, Estey led the entire race until the last lap when he and Dave Mass traded sheet metal in turn four with Mass coming out ahead for the feature win and Estey finishing second.

Al Rapp of Saginaw had the 2010 Pure Stock points championship all “Rapped” up before he took to the track on Sunday. Rapp had built up an 87 point lead over the second place ride of Mark Korte. Josh Loucks of Carlton won the 15 lap feature event, his fifth feature win of the season. Rapp ran a nice race, coming in second on his way to victory lane to claim his track championship.
