PROCTOR – Kevin Burdick won his second straight WISSOTA Super Stock feature Sunday night at the Proctor Speedway. It was also Burdick’s second career feature win in a WISSOTA division since moving from the Pure Stocks. Other winners included Kyle Peterlin, WISSOTA Late Models in a thriller over Darrell Nelson, Skeeter Estey in the Midwest Modifieds, Ryan Aho in the WISSOTA Modifieds and Dustin Follett in the Proctor Pure Stocks.

After qualifying heats were finished the first event to take to the track was the 20 lap Midwest Modified feature. Tommy Turcotte grabbed the early lead but he was soon overhauled by Jesse Ogston. Five laps into the event the first caution flag flew when E. J. Hietala and Andrew Inman tangled off turn two. It took two tries to resume competition. The first attempt saw Inman stall in turn two, and then a ragged start caused the caution to again appear.

Ogston again took the lead on the restart with Skeeter Estey, Turcotte and Dan Kingsley three abreast for second. Turcotte appeared to get squeezed between the two in the fourth turn and spun into the middle of the pack, collecting several cars. The most severely damaged appeared to be Hietala with the radiator going up in a cloud of steam. Also involved were Glen Dammer, Lance Solem, and Jeff Davis. Those three were able to pit and return to competition.

There were still 15 laps to run as racing resumed. Ogston got another good jump on the field at the green, followed by Estey and Kingsley while Deven VanHouse and Jimmy Latvala battled for fourth. Cody Carlson, Tom Smart, George Dalbeck and Adam Archer ran sixth through ninth at the half way point. Just past half way Estey got by Ogston who appeared to be slowing. Latvala got by Ogston for second but the second caution flag appeared for Ogston who stalled at the top of turn four.

The restart saw six circuits remaining and Latvala battled Estey for the lead as Kingsley, Smart and VanHouse ran in the top five. Just as Carlson recaptured fifth, Neil Balduc spun in turn three bringing out the yellow again with four laps remaining. It was a single file restart and Estey held on to take his third feature win of the season at the speedway followed by Kingsley, Latvala, Smart and Carlson.

Next up was 20 laps for the WISSOTA Super Stock feature which got off to a ragged start when Nick Oreskovich got turned on the back stretch on the first lap as fog began to move in over the third turn. At the restart Andy Davey made a try for the lead but Kevin Burdick beat him to the first turn and took the point leaving Davey to battle with Kevin Eder as Scott Lawrence moved from eighth to fourth and point leader Jeff Tardy ran fifth. Zach Wolers led Kevin Salin and Todd Carlson in a tight battle for sixth but Carlson tipped the #11 of Salin causing a spin tin turns three and four.

At the green there was a problem across the back stretch and Wohlers lost the entire nose piece on the #71. The next attempt at a restart saw Burdick maintain the lead over the now second Eder, Davey and Lawrence who battled with Tardy to keep fourth but Tardy took the position. At the half way point of the event the front five was the same as Salin, Tom Treviranus, Mike Bellefeuille, Carlson and Oreskovich ran in the top ten.

The top five ran out a long lead on the Salin who was alone in sixth. Treviranus was also alone in seventh while a pair of 21’s Bellefeuille and Oreskovich skirmished for eighth. The laps quickly clicked off without incident as Burdick crossed the finish line ahead of Davey, Eder, Tardy and Lawrence.

A pair not usually seen at the front of the field, Tridell Champlin and Ken Hron led the WISSOTA Modifieds out for their 20 lap feature. The pair ran side by side for the lead on the first lap with Hron grabbing the advantage in the first turn on lap two. The race came to a halt when Jad Carlson was turned on the back stretch and Jamie Davis took an off road excursion down the back stretch.

With a single lap recorded, Hron got a great restart, but so did Ryan Aho and cleared Hron who spun in the first turn into the infield and out of contention. Aho led Darrell Nelson, Kelly Estey, Jody Bellefeuille and tenth starting Paul Schultz. Aho pulled out three car lengths on Nelson; Estey was closing as Jeff Broking took over the fifth spot. At the half way point that was the running order, but soon after there was a clash between Bellefeuille and Nick Lavato resulting in a DNF for Bellefeuille.

The restart came with eight laps remaining and Aho continued to lead Nelson while Estey got a challenge from Broking. Another caution flag flew for debris on the track with four to go. At the restart Lavato made a charge at Jamie Davis and Schultz resulting in a tangle between those two. Lavato was tagged with the caution. The remaining few laps went off without incident, the top three remained the same with Aho taking his first feature win of the season at the speedway. Broking finished fourth ahead of Schultz in fifth.

It was to be 25 laps for the WISSOTA Late Models, Aaron Lillo and Cory Jorgensen on the front row. The front row battled for the point on the first lap with Jorgensen edging ahead. Sixth starting Kyle Peterlin found a hole and zipped through with a strong move, then promptly pulled away by a wide margin. Lillo was solidly in second but soon had eighth starting Darrell Nelson breathing down his neck. The caution flag flew on lap five when Jorgensen slid off turn three. At this point it was Peterlin, Lillo, Nelson, Tim McMann and Don Copp in the top five.

At the restart Peterlin blasted into the lead but Brian Nelson’s #8 left a wheel and tire just out of turn two, bringing out the caution again. This time on the restart Nelson completed his challenge and took the lead and quickly began to pull away from Peterlin. Lillo was a distant third pressured by Copp with McMann fifth. As the midpoint was reached the top five order remained the same while Jeff Provinzino, Kevin Carlson, Joey Ogston and Jorgensen ran in the top ten.

Nelson had a good ten car lengths on Peterlin who, in turn had at least 15 on third running Copp. Nelson was eyeing up the back of the field preparing to begin lapping slower cars. This gave Peterlin a chance to close up and begin to challenge Nelson in traffic. Peterlin caught Nelson in traffic and, with the white flag in the air, forced his way past Ogston underneath as Nelson went around the top and took the lead. He was able to hold on to take the win with Nelson settling for second, Copp third, Provinzino fourth and Lillo fifth. It was Peterlin’s second feature win of the season at the speedway.

The finale of the night was the Proctor Pure Stock 15 lap feature. Esten Nelson led early from the pole but it was Dustin Follett who put on the charge to take the lead. The race quickly arrived at the half way point with Follett holding a huge advantage over Josh Loucks, and Dan Larsen. Loucks encountered mechanical problems and pulled off as Follett’s lead increased even more over Dan Larsen, Dale Soumala, point leader Al Rapp and Nelson. The 11R of Dale Reynolds encountered problems and rolled to a halt at the bottom of turn four setting up a green/white/checkered finish. Follett had little trouble taking the win as the top five remained in the same order.
