PROCTOR – Kyle Peterlin of Hibbing has been on a roll as of late since fielding the new car and on Sunday night recorded his second Late Model feature win of the weekend.

The front row for the 25 lap WISSOTA Late Model feature consisted of the feature winners from the previous two weeks each hoping to collect their second career win. At the green flag Cory Jorgenson led off as Kevin Carlson jumped from the second row to chase Jorgenson. Darrell Nelson, Harry Hanson and Jeff Provinzino ran about eight car lengths behind the lead duo. The eighth starting Peterlin was on the prowl and raced to fourth as Nelson overtook Carlson for second. Most ran in the top groove as Peterlin moved into third. The caution flag flew for debris on the front stretch, not what Jorgenson wanted to see.

With ten circuits remaining, Jorgenson’s restart was not good and he slipped off turn one and returned in last place, ruining a great run and leaving the lead to Nelson who had Peterlin pasted to his back bumper. Provinzino, Hanson and Carlson were still in the top five. Peterlin got a shot at Nelson on the bottom of turn two and shot into the lead. For the next few laps the two ran side by side and traded the lead until Peterlin got another great run and pulled out a couple of car lengths as the white flag flew. He held off Nelson for the win. Provinzino, Hanson and Carlson finished in the top five.

The Super Stock feature took to the track with Tom Treviranus and Kevin Burdick at its head. At the green flag Kuras grabbed the lead over Burdick while Jeff Tardy, Dave Mass and Scott Lawrence ran in close attendance. Burdick nipped around Kuras for the lead and the first turn bit Mass for the second week in a row as he slid off track and returned in ninth. The race proceeded quickly and the half way point was reached with Burdick holding off Tardy and Lawrence with Kuras fourth and Mike Bellefeuille up to fifth.

Tardy edged ever closer to Burdick as the laps wound down but Burdick was able to hold him off for the popular win, his first at the Proctor Speedway. Bellefeuille got by Lawrence to third and Kuras rounded out the top five.

The 15 lap Pure Stock feature lined up with Mark Korte on the pole. Korte quickly jumped into the lead over Richard Dzelak, Pete Ciurleo, Austin Blom, Al Rapp, Chad Carlson and Dustin Follett.

The red flag appeared when Chad Carlson’s 21 station wagon turned turtle at the bottom of turn four. At their start Ciurleo led Korte and Dzelak as Al Rapp moved to fifth. The caution flag flew when Dale Soumala got turned around on the front straight. With11 laps remaining Korte got a good run off the bottom and briefly regained the lead.

At the half way point Ciurleo was in command followed by Korte, Dzelak, Blom, Rapp, and Follett. Ciurleo tight roped out to a good lead on the very top flirting with disaster and it struck as he slipped off the top of turn one and stalled while trying to regain the track in turn two bringing out the caution flag.

There were four laps remaining when the green flag again appeared and there was some three wide racing going on behind the new leader Dzelak. Some of that three wide racing resulted in a clash on the front stretch between Tim Carlson and Austin Blom resulting in most of the front end of Blom’s #3B deposited on the track. Both he and Carlson were apparently disqualified. It was a four pack for the win on the final lap with Rapp grabbing his second of the season followed by Dzelak, Korte and Follett.

Almost from the start of the 20 lap Modified feature, Kelly Estey and Jeff Broking battled ahead of Steve Stuart, Jody Bellefeuille, Nick Lavato and Ryan Aho. As Estey and broking put on a show in the early going, Bellefeuille began to slowly make up ground on the leaders. Estey got the edge on Broking who fell into the clutches of Bellefeuille as Stuart ran fourth ahead of a three car battle between Darrell Nelson, Lavato and Aho for fifth. Bellefeuille grabbed second as Broking fell back into a battle with Nelson and crew for fourth.

The first and only caution flag flew when Ken Hron turned around in the fourth turn. Estey went on to take the win, his first of the season at the speedway while Bellefeuille, Nelson, Broking and Jad Carlson finished top five.

The Midwest Modified feature got off to a start; or rather a no start as Adam Archer turned around in the first turn and was thumped by Sean Podpeskar and Tom Mackey. Again an attempt and again a spin and a caution flag, this time for Andrew Inman in turn four. It was still an original start as Tommy Turcotte grabbed the lead and quickly widened it. Everyone else was able to keep going more or less pointed in the correct direction but that lasted three laps before E. J. Hietala spun off the bottom of turn four.

Turcotte maintained the lead at the green but Dave Mass moved inside then outside and took over the point. Again the yellow light blinked on as Podpeskar slipped off the back stretch. At the restart Mass led out in close company with Turcotte and Skeeter Estey but the pack couldn’t get in a complete a lap in as it was a ragged start. Mass led Estey Lance Solem, Jesse Ogston and are bounding Andrew Inman as the midpoint was finally reached and Mass had a huge lead.

Estey and Solem butted heads for second and Inman, Jimmy Latvala and Dan Kingsley battled for third. In Man took another spin with nine laps remaining. Mass kept the lead on the restart and was cruising in the lead. Estey began to close up the distance while an eight car pack skirmished for third. Mass made no slips in this event and won his second feature of the season at the speedway. Estey, Solem, Deven VanHouse and Ogston made up the top five.

Also on the card were the “Barnum Bombers” cars that race at the Barnum MN track. They brought nine cars, seven started the feature, which was won by a large margin by the #66 of Mike Swanson.
