Minnesota North 18-1 Volleyball Team To Compete In Reno

The Minnesota North 18-1 Junior Olympic volleyball team will be competing in the 31st annual USA volleyball girls’ Junior National Championships held in Reno, Nevada from June 29th through July 3rd. Team members include several top local volleyball players.


Team members are Kayla Handevidt – Esko, MN (Moorhead State University), Samantha Kallberg – Hermantown, MN (Moorhead State University), Amy Lothenbach – Duluth East (St. Scholastica), Blayke Lundberg – Duluth East, Kate Lange – Hibbing, MN (University of MN Duluth), Leah Benham – Deer River (Bethel University), Madeline Siroin – Washburn, WI (Minnesota State University Mankato), Keely Deadrick -Esko, MN, Sheenagh Caroline – Moose Lake/Willow River (University of MN Duluth), Clare Lulich – Ashland, WI, Stephanie Siroin – Washburn, WI (University of Wisconsin, Green Bay).


The team is coached by Christyn May, an assistant volleyball coach at the University of Minnesota, Duluth.


The Minnesota North Volleyball program provides instruction and competitive opportunities for the area’s elite volleyball players. Try-outs for the MN North teams are held in mid-November and the MN North teams compete against teams from all over the country with the goal of qualifying for the USA Volleyball National Championships each year.


This year the MN North 18-1s team qualified for Nationals at a regional qualifying tournament in Bloomington, MN in April.


Other accomplishment for this season include:

•1st place in the Gold Division of the President Day Festival out of 48 teams from the upper Midwest, 2/13-14/10

•4th place in the Gold Division of the Northern Lights Qualifier out of 50 teams from all over the country. This marked the highest finish of any MN north team, 4/23-25/10
