Hilltoppers Fall To Spartans

The Duluth Marshall Hilltoppers battled the Superior Spartans on Tuesday evening in a game that would see the Spartans run away early with the 82-25 victory.

The Spartans held the lead at halftime, 54-17 and would continue their outburst in the second half, outscoring the Hilltoppers 28-8 to secure the victory.

Leading the Spartans in the win was a balanced scoring attack with 12 players scoring on the evening. Jessica Lindstrom lead the Spartans with 17, followed by Hailey Kontny with 16, Alyssa Correll with 13, and Rachel Fregin with 10. Also scoring in the win for the Spartans was McKensie Kmecik with 8, Alayna Fender scoring 4, Malley O’Brien and MaryLynne Leadstrom notched 3, and Elizabeth Kolanczyk, Missy Toland, Tailor Schuster, and Taylor Nelson rounded it out with 2 points each.

In the loss for the Hilltoppers, Maddy Eyer scored a team high 10 points, Mary Baumgartner added 9, Rachel DeWitte pitched in 4, and Maghan Matthews topped it off with 2.

The Spartans improve to 18-3 on the season and will host the Grand Rapids Thunderhawks (17-7) on February 27th. The Hilltoppers drop to 9-16 on the season and will square off with the Two Harbors Agates (11-13) on February 27th.
