Ice cool off Fire in All-Star Game

CLOQUET- The Ice got the best of the Fire 4-2 Tuesday night in the 10th Annual K-1 Sports High School All-Star Girls Hockey game played at Northwoods Credit Union Arena.

    The game featured 34 girls from northern Minnesota ranging west from Bemidji to Cloquet-Esko-Carlton and north from Warroad and International Falls to Moose Lake Area.

 

    Kallie Kunst of Duluth got the Fire on the scoreboard about five minutes into the contest, which featured three 20-minute periods.

 

  Then the Ice scored four straight goals in the game, first from Jenna Anderson of International Falls at 11:35 of the first period.  The Ice team scored the only two goals of the seond period, the first from Hanna Olson of Bemidji at 2:06 and the other from Riley Fawcett of Proctor-Hermantown.

  The Ice took a three-goal lead 6:01 of the thrid period when Fawcett struck again with a well-placed shot into the upper-left part of the net.  The Fire pulled to within two goals at 13:35 of the third on Kunst’s second goal of the game.

 

    The Ice outshot the Fire by a 36-35 count.  The goaltender combo of Kylie Hommerding (Proctor-Hermantown) and Dani Knott (Warroad) made 33 saves while the Fire combination of Keanna Carlson (International Falls) and Kora Bonicatto (Evelth-Gilbert) made 32 stops on the night.

 

    Fawcett and Kunst were named the game’s co-MVPs.
