Proctor Ends Mora’s Reign As Section 7AA Champs

HERMANTOWN- The Proctor Rails ousted the defending Section 7AA champions Wednesday afternoon at Don Fichtner Field in Hermantown by a final score of 7 -5. Proctor’s victory ended Mora’s reign as the two time defending 7AA champions.


The Mora Mustangs got on the scoreboard first when Darin Erickson hit a two-run double to gave the Mustangs a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Proctor answered back in the bottom of the first when Tyler Pionk scored on a sacrifice fly from Ryan McCarthy. The Rails added 3 more runs in the bottom of the second
as starting pitcher Bryce Osland walked the bases full. Osland was then replaced on the mound by his brother, Jake Osland, who gave up an RBI sacrifice fly to Justin Scanlon. That was followed by a 2-run single by Ryan McCarthy. The Rails led 4-2 after the second inning.


Darin Erickson knocked in his third run of the game with a RBI single in the top of the third to cut the lead to 4-3. Mora took their second lead of the game in the top of the 5th inning when they scored off of a wild pitch and a throwing error. Mora’s was short lived, however. Proctor tied the score in the bottom of the 5th inning when Reid Olson came in to score on a bases loaded walk to Tyler Pionk. That evened the score at five apiece after 5 innings.


The Proctor Rails ensured their victory in the bottom of the 6th inning when Pat Everson had a two-run single that gave the Rails the final margin of victory of two runs. The win over Mora moved the Rails to face the Cloquet Lumberjacks in the consolation round of the Section AA tournament.


Jake Lewis was the winning pitcher for the Proctor Rails. Bryce Olsand was the losing pitcher for the Mora Mustangs. Reid Olson had 2 hits and 1 run in the Proctor victory. Ryan McCarthy added 3 RBIs in the win. The Proctor Rails improve to 13-7 on the season with the win.
