HERMANTOWN – The AlBrook Falcons’ hopes of winning the Section 7A baseball championship and a trip to their first state tournament were dashed by the Warriors of Deer River on Thursday afternoon with a 4-2 victory at Fitcner Field in Hermantown.

The Falcons took an early 2-0 lead as Kolten Karppinen’s double scored Brice Karppinen and Josh Johnson. However, AlBrook stranded 7 base runners and could only muster 6 total hits for the game.

Deer River pitcher Travis Kane struck out five as the Warriors moved on to the Final Four of the section double elimination tourney with the win. Deer River completed the sweep at Hermantown with a nightcap win over Northland 11-0 in 5 innings. The Warriors (16-6) move on to play Floodwood at 2 PM on Tuesday in Hibbing. Northland will play Cherry in the other match up.

AlBrook, the number #1 seed in subsection 1, made it out of the subsection with a 5-4 win over Barnum on Wednesday night in Saginaw. Despite the loss, the Falcons end their baseball season with one of the best records in school history at 16-3.

Congratulations to Coach Damien Paulson and his staff on such a fine season. NSO would like to recognize the graduating AlBrook seniors Joe Haag, Cody Anderson, Matt Lisic, Kolten Karppinen, Jon Bolme, Josh Johnson, Nick Hayes and Tony Williams.
