Lenard & Gilbert Propel Miarge into Consolation Finals

The Proctor-Hermantown mirage advanced to the Consolation Championship Game Saturday with a 4-1 win Thursday afternoon over Litchfield-Dassel-Cokato at Ridder Arena in Minneapolis.

Karie Lenard and Jillayne Gilbert each scored twice Thursday to led the Mirage to the 4-1 victory after falling in the opening round quarterfinals to St. Paul United by a score of 5-2Wednesday night at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

“We didn’t have the pucks go our way Wednesday night” Head Mirage Coach Glen Gilderman told Northland Sports Online, “but I was proud of how they came back today especially how tired they were after a late finish and great for our girls to pick up the win.”

Jillayne Gilbert got the Mirage on the scoreboard right away in the first period when she intercepted a Dragons pass and put it past net-minder Abby Roediger to put the Mirage in front 1-0.

It was then Karie Lenard who notched two second period goals which gave the Mirage a 3-0 lead after two periods. Madison Baker set up the first goal at 6:47 of the second period while her second goal of the period was assisted by Emma Olson, and Katie McKinzie.

The Dragons cut the lead to 3-1 in the third but Gilbert added an empty net goal to seal the Mirage’s victory and advance to face Alexandria who defeated New Ulm 4-3 in triple overtime.

In the loss to the Untied on Wednesday night Sophie McGovern scored on an assist from Gilbert and Mikayla Kero scored the second goal in the loss to the United.

Kylie Hommerding had 16 saves in the loss to the United and on Thursday she finished with 19 saves in the win over the Dragons, the Mirage improve to 19-10 on the season.
