It was a day of mixed results for the Proctor baseball team on Thursday. The Rails opened the day with a Section 7AA second round game and a 9-4 win over Virginia at Wade Stadium. However, by the end of the day, the Rails had fallen 7-2 to Cloquet in the first game of the double-elimination Final Four Tournament.

The Rails Jake Lewis gave up 10-hits on the mound against Virginia, but he recorded six strike outs and got enough help defensively to pick up the win.

Jesse Scanlon lashed out two hits including a double to help lead the Rail offense. Lewis aided his own cause by scoring a pair of runs in the win.

Following the first game, the four remaining teams in Section 7AA moved on to the Final Four phase of tournament play. Final Four play is double elimination, unlike the first two rounds which are single elimination. The Rails, who had beaten Cloquet just a week ago, fell 7-2 to the Lumberjacks as Connor Stowell pitched Cloquet to the win. Stowell went seven innings and gave up just five hits.

Scanlon again had a nice game at the plate for the Rails by collecting a pair of hits and a run scored.

The loss puts the Rails in an elimination game on Tuesday against Mora, who lost to Hermantown 6-5.
