CLOQUET – They’ve been here before. A year ago the Hermantown girls softball team faced elimination in the Section 7AA softball tournament after losing to Virginia. The Hawks bounced back to win back-to-back games and the Section 7AA title. Less than a week later, the Hawks also won the Class AA Minnesota State High School Girls Softball Championship in Mankato. If the Hawks are going to get a chance to defend their state title they will need to win two games against Duluth Central today.

Duluth Central surprised everyone with a 3-2 win over the Hawks in their game on Tuesday at Braun Park in Cloquet. Riding strong pitching and timely hitting, the Trojans then went on to beat Denfeld to remain undefeated in the double-elimination tournament.

After falling to Central in the opener, the Hawks rebounded behind strong pitching from Megan Mullen to beat Greenway and then Denfeld to secure a chance for revenge today against the Trojans.

Game one is set for 4pm at Braun Park with a second game starting at 6pm if necessary. The cost to get in the game is $7.00 and programs are available for a buck. If you are unable to attend the game it will also be broadcast locally on Legends Rock 96.5 FM in Cloquet.
