CLOQUET – Monday marked the 6th Annual Memorial Day Wiffle Ball Tournament in Cloquet. The tournament, held annually at Peterson Park, drew a record 34 teams with nearly 400 fans and players in attendance throughout the day.

Play began early in the day with teams playing in their individual pool, most pools included up to 4 teams with the top 2 teams in each pool advancing to elimination round play.

The winning team was a team of St. Scholastica baseball players led by Cloquet native Thomas Jezierski. Ironically, Jezierski’s team had lost their first pool play game and nearly lost their second game before rallying for a come-from-behind win and eventually moving on to elimination round action. Jezierski’s team went 6-1 overall in the tournament.

“It was our biggest tournament ever,” said organizer Tyler Korby a member of the National Wiffle Ball Hall of Fame. “The weather was perfect.”
