Wilderness Sweep Magicians

 Frank Oplinger put in an outstanding performance as the Minnesota Wilderness shutout the Magicians 3-0 in the Twin Cities.

Oplinger had 29 saves on the night for the Wilderness as the Wilderness picked up their third consecutive victory.

The Wilderness struck in first period as Will Peterson got the Wilderness on the board with an assist by Nolan Culver. Eric Brenk made it 2-0 scoring the lone goal in the second period on a power play. Brenk’s goal was assisted by Terry Leabo.

Jakob Romo scored in the third goal of the game to put the Wilderness ahead 3-0 as that is how the game would end Friday night. Assists on the Romo goal came from Darian Romanko and Richard Buri. 

Saturday night at Northwoods Credit Union Arena the Wilderness fell behind 1-0 early in the first period but the Wilderness responded right back as Tomas Lindstrom scored to tie the game at 1-1, Erick Brenk assisted on the Lindstrom goal.

With only 1:41 left in the first period Jakob Romo made it 2-1 in favor of the Wilderness as he scored on assists from Lindstrom. The Wilderness made it 3-1 when Darian Romanko scored on a power play with assist to Dominik Tiffels and Billy Exell.

The last goal came in the third period to seal the win as Brenk scored to make it 4-1 and assists went to Exell and Terry Leabo. Oplinger was the winning goalie as he stopped 23 of the 24 shots he faced.

The Wilderness improve to 23-11-6 and are currently in second place in the Midwest Division 52 total points on the season. The Wilderness will be home next weekend for a series with Aberdeen as the Wings and the Wilderness will meet for the first time this season.
