Michaud’s Hat Trick Gives Jacks Home Opening Win

Westin Michaud recorded the pure hat trick and the Cloquet-Esko-Carlton opened the season with a 3-0 home victory over Virginia-MIB in boys hockey on Tuesday night at Northwoods Credit Union Arena.

The Lumberjacks held a 13-3 shots advantage when Michaud scored with 20 seconds remaining in the first period giving CEC the lead for good. Assisting on the goal were Beau Michaud and Karson Kuhlman.

Despite a scoreless second period the Lumberjacks continued their strong pressure on the Blue Devils and finally broke through with a pair of Michaud goals in the last minutes of regulation. At 15:28 Michaud scored from Kuhlman and Beau Michaud and then Westin Michaud completed the hat trick with an empty net tally with 1:02 remaining in the third period.

For the game, the Jacks outshot the Blue Devils 39 to14 as Justin Ketola picked up the shut out between the pipes for CEC. Andrew Sederlund finished with 36 saves for Virginia-MIB.


The Jacks will try to make it 2-0 on Saturday when they travel to Bloomington-Jefferson to take on the Jaguars.
