Carlton Girls Retain the Brown Jug with a 47-41 Win Over Wrenshall

The “Little Brown Jug” game has been a tradition between the Carlton and Wrenshall basketball programs  for 60 plus years, last night the lady Bulldogs made sure the traveling trophy will be theirs for a sixth consecutive year.  The packed Carlton High School gym was loud and electric as the two teams battled in a game that was close right down to the end.

Wrenshall got off to a quick start and took a 19-6 lead early in the first half.  After a time out, the Bulldogs clamped down the defense and worked their way back, finishing the half only down by 3.   Carlton kept it close through most of the second half and a Taylor Klassen free throw tied the game at 37-37 with four minutes to go.

A nifty little drive and lay-up by Myranda Papesh gave the Bulldogs lead on their next possession and some aggressive defense and clutch free throw shooting allowed Carlton to hold off the Wren’s for their first win of the season.

Carlton’s three seniors led the way in scoring with Papesh dropping in a team high of 16 while Klassen had 11 and Karlyn Voge finished with 7.  Wrenshall was led by sophomore Delaney Kittel with 16 and junior Brianna Brim had 12.
