In just their second season as a program, the Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College women’s softball team has been ranked in the National Junior Collegiate Athletic Association Poll. After opening the season with a 5-1 record the Thunder are now ranked #5 in the rankings, which came out this weekend.

“I think what it says is that other programs are recognizing that we have a pretty good team this year,” said Coach Kerry Rodd. “We’ve worked hard to get better and we’ll continue to work hard and just hope that we can continue our good start.”

The Thunder opened the season by taking a 20-1 win over Minot State-Bottineau and then split a pair of games with the #3 ranked team in the country Ridgewater. Following that split the Thunder pounded out three straight victories over Itasca, Rainy River and Northland Community College.

“The players are happy to be ranked, but they also know that it really means nothing as far as how our season goes,” Rodd stated. “All it says is that we can now compete against the top teams, but nobody is going to hand us anything. We will have to work hard and prove we belong with the great programs of the MCAC.”
