Raleigh Goessling,
Cloquet-Esko-Carlton’s top Nordic skier, will be absent from the team for a few weeks because he will be competing at the World Junior and Youth Biathlon Team championships from January 26th through February 3rd.

Goessling will be competing again at the International level, but this time in Torsby, Sweden. He is currently the third ranked skier in the state Nordic ski rankings
and will be returning one day prior to the Section 7 Nordic ski meet, which is set to be held at Giants Ridge in Biwabik. Raleigh finished second in last year’s state Nordic meet right behind Erik Fagerstrom from Eden Prairie.

Goessling is one of four skiers to qualify for the World Junior competition. He will be joined by fellow Minnesotan Conrad Roberts of Battle Lake, Casey Smith of Winthrop, Washington and Ethan Dreissigacker of Morrisville, Vermont.

Raleigh’s high school coach Les Martin describes him as “one of a kind.” He went on to say, “He is someone who works hard and shows that hard work and dedication do pay off. The younger skiers all look up to him and he deserves all the credit because it is his work ethic that has paid off.”

Goessling is coming off of his first place finish at the Cloquet Invite, which was held at the Pine Valley Ski Center in Cloquet. He did not compete at the Marshall Sprints last Friday at Spirit Mountain. Northland Sports Online would like to wish all the success to Raleigh as he represents the United States in Sweden.
