The Moose Lake Willow River Rebel baseball team knew Tuesday’s game against Carlton would be a battle, but they did not realize how tough it would be. The Rebels withstood a late charge and held on to win 12-11.

The Rebels capitalized on a throwing error in the top of the sixth inning that allowed two runs to score, putting the Rebels in front 10-6. The Bulldogs would fight their way back as they would score two runs in the bottom of the sixth and three in the seventh with a winning run at the plate when a groundout ended the Bulldog comeback.

The Rebels got on the scoreboard first when they scored three runs on a home run by Dan Anderson. Rajean Carlson who walked to start the inning and Joey Bohaty scored on Anderson’s home run. The three run lead was short lived as Carlton would answer right back in the bottom of the first with three runs of their own. Carlton would take their only lead of the game in the second inning when Zack Anderson would walk to start the inning and score on a RBI single by Caleb Hatfield later in the inning.

The Rebels would retake the lead in the third inning when they scored three more runs and took a 6-4 lead. The Rebels would add one more in the fifth and three more in the sixth before scoring the two unearned runs, which would be the difference in the game.

The Rebels improve to 4-0 on the season. Spencer Clough went 3-4 with 3 RBI’s and Dan Anderson finished 2-4, as did Abe Young in the Rebel win. Chaise Jokinen and Ben Rapp both had three hits in the Bulldog loss. Rapp hit a solo home run in the third inning.

The Rebels are in action again hosting Hermantown in Moose Lake on Friday. Carlton takes on Esko at home this Thursday.
