The Barnum Bombers boys baseball team has a 1-2 overall record after the first full week of the 2009 baseball season. The Bombers were looking to open the season in the first week of April but with uncooperative weather, they were unable to play their first game until last Wednesday.

The Bombers opened the regular season last Wednesday at the Metrodome, downing the Cromwell Cardinals by a score of 13-0. Three Barnum pitchers combined on a five inning no hitter for the win. Frankie Barrios, Erik Johnson and Cody Hagenbeck all pitched in the Bomber victory.

“We didn’t get home until late from the Metrodome game,” head cCoach Dave Duesler told NSO. He continued to state, “we were just not ready in our last two games.” The Bombers lost to the Carlton Bulldogs 10-5 on Thursday. “We fell behind 6-0 early and couldn’t fight our way back into the game,” Duesler said. On Friday the Bombers, playing their third game in three days, fell to the Cherry Tiger 11-1 in Cherry. “We came out flat and we were not ready to play,” Duesler reported. “This week will be better with only one game and time to get outside and practice.”

The Bombers are in action at home on Wednesday afternoon hosting their Polar League rival Cook County. The Vikings have not played a game yet this season and will play at McGregor on Tuesday afternoon.
