The Esko girl’s softball team hit a minor speed bump after starting the season with two big wins as they lost to St. Cloud Cathedral 5-3 Saturday at Braun Park in Cloquet.

Stellar pitching from Kelsey Saralampi, who struck out seven in the losing effort, kept the game close. Esko, trailing 4-3 had base runners but could not get them across to tie the game. St. Cloud picked up an insurance run in the seventh, and held on to pick up the 5-3 win.

The Eskomos have a big week ahead of them as the take on Cloquet on Monday, travel to Cromwell on Tuesday and host the upstart Carlton Bulldogs on Thursday.
