Lumberjacks Baseball Now 2-0 On the Season

Mettner Field, Cloquet – The Cloquet Lumberjacks improved their record to 2-0 on the season with a 5-3 win over Ashland.

Ashland took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second when Brian Campbell singled with two outs following two walks.

Cloquet responded with two runs in their half of the inning. Thomas Jezierski walked and advanced to second on Connor Stowell’s sacrifice bunt. Jezierski reached third on a wild pitch, and scored on Thomas Rogers’ groundout. With two outs, the Jack’s drew three consecutive walks before Adam Hanson’s infield single gave Cloquet a 2-1 lead.

Ashland tied the game in the fifth when Campbell singled, was bunted to second, and scored on a wild pitch.

Cloquet responded immediately again in their half of the fifth. With two outs and Dedric Clark on second base, Stowell was intentionally walked and Rogers delivered a run scoring double, followed by Corbin Morse’s two run single to give the Jack’s a 5-2 lead.

Ashland cut the lead to 5-3 in the sixth, when Campbell delivered a run scoring single, his third hit of the game.

Jezierski picked up the win in relief of Clark. Clark allowed 2 hits and 6 walks in 4 2/3 innings, while Jezierski allowed 1 hit and 3 walks in 2 1/3 innings.

Cloquet is now 2-0 on the season and plays their next game Tuesday, April 21, at 4:30 PM in Virginia.
