DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com)- The St. Scholastica men’s soccer team got their first win of the season this afternoon with a 1-0 victory over Gustavus Adolphus at Saints Field.

There was no scoring in the first half with the shots being 4-2 in favor of Gustavus, but the story of the first half was the flurry of yellow cards that were given as three different Saints players were shown a yellow card.

The only goal of the game came five minutes into the second half with Joe Watt (London, England/North West Kent College) scoring on a penalty kick under the arm of the goalkeeper. The second half was also a lot like the first half as three more Saints players were given a yellow card.

Gustavus had several chances towards the end of the game including a shot of the crossbar. They had another opportunity late in the game but defense man Tom Corcoran (Warrington, England/Great Sankey HS, Priestley College) came up with a spectacular bicycle kick clear out on an open net which in the end proved to be the play of the game to secure the win for the Saints.

The shots at the end of the game were 13-6 in favor of Gustavus Adolphus.

The next action for the Saints will be this Sunday at Saints Field against Carleton with the game starting at 4:30 p.m.
