Willow River – On Thursday afternoon, the Moose Lake-Willow River Rebels came out with a dominating performance to pick up their second straight win in the season. The Rebels beat Cromwell 11-1 in Willow River.

The Rebels used an outstanding pitching performance by Katie Youngberg to assist in the win. She shut down the Cardinals by allowing only one run on two hits. The one run scored was unearned. She blew the Cromwell hitters away, pitching 13 strikeouts in the Rebels 10 run win.

The game was scoreless through the first three innings. Then, the Rebels got on the scored board in the bottom of the fourth. A walk by Amanda Larson and Maddy Adamczak being hit by a pitch set the Rebels up for Kathryn Moonen, who hit a triple down the right field line scoring two runs. The Rebels scored three runs in the fifth. Kim Ergen, Sam Juhl, and Larson all scored for the Rebels. Larson knocked in two of the three runs with a base hit and Larson later scored on a single by Kathryn Moonen.

The big inning came in the sixth, when the Rebels scored six runs to extend the margin to ten and able to access the ten-run rule to win. ML-WR had three hits in that inning and five walks given up by Cromwell, which led to the victory on Thursday. The Cardinals only run came in the fifth inning when Dayna Elmer singled, she moved to second when Ariana Korpela walked then scored on a Rebel error later in the inning.

Cromwell managed only two hits on the afternoon and Lacie Laine was the losing pitcher. Youngberg was the winning pitcher, now 2-0 on the season. Mary Lou Moonen had three hits for the Rebels and drove in four runs. Larson, Juhl and Kathryn Moonen all had two hits for ML-WR.

ML-WR improves to 2-0 on the season, and Cromwell falls to 0-2. The Rebels will play at Rush City on Monday, and Cromwell is next in action Tuesday at home, hosting Esko in a Polar League match-up.
