With six meets remaining before the Lake Superior Conference swim meet, the Cloquet-Esko-Carlton girls swim team is busy preparing for a strong stretch run.

“So far our dual record is 1-3,” said CEC coach Stacia Schacht. “We won over Chisholm and lost against Proctor-Hermantown and Two Harbors.”

The Jacks have a plethora of strong individual swimmers who are busy preparing for the conference and sectional meets just ahead.

“We have a lot of great swimmers right now and we are led by Kayla Whipple, who is our top sprinter, and by Whitney Wysocki, who is our top distance swimmer,” commented Schacht. “We also have a new individual medley swimmer, Alison Denman and other top swimmers include; Aimee Goldschmidt and Brittni Kemi.”

The conference meet will take place on October 31st with the sectionals taking play on November 13th and 14th.

“We have been focusing on getting yards in and finishing strong,” mentioned Schacht. “We have won quite a few close races with the strong finishes. We don’t have a clearly defined JV and Varsity team, as we have only 17 swimmers. Most of the girls have had the opportunity to swim at a Varsity meet.”

Kayla Whipple won the 50 freestyle with a time of 27.63 seconds and Whitney Wysocki finished first in the 500 freestyle, touching the edge with a time of 6:20.50. Despite lots of good second and third place finishes, CEC lost a tight meet 36-38 to Proctor-Hermantown
