The new football field being built in Esko is “progressing nicely” Esko Athletic Director Chad Stoskoph told Northland Sports Online. The new turf is expected to be installed this Wednesday barring any unforeseen complications. Stoskoph added that “it usually takes 7-10 days to complete installation of the new turf.”

The Eskomos first home game of the season was supposed to be September 6th against Polar League conference rival Moose Lake – Willow River. With that day very close to the date of completion of the field, the Eskomos have made arrangements to play their first game of the season at Terry Egerdahl Field in Proctor at 7:00 pm.

With the project continuing on, hopes are that the football field will be ready for homecoming on September 27th so that the game and the homecoming events can take place at the new complex. The 2013 homecoming game on the 27th will feature the Eskomos taking on the Two Harbors Agates.

The Eskomos are hoping to make a return appearance in the state football playoffs and defend their section 7AAA title. The Eskomos will open their regular season on Friday August 30th when they will take on the Cloquet Lumberjacks at Rol Bromberg Field in Cloquet. This match-up appears to be the first meeting at the varsity level for these two schools.
