Moose Lake-Willow River senior basketball player Hillary Peterson has chosen to attend the University of Wisconsin Superior next fall where she plans to play basketball for the Yellow Jackets.

Head coach Don Mulhern of the UWS Yellow Jackets has been recruiting Peterson for well over two years now and is enthusiastic about having Peterson attend UWS. Peterson will be joining three local players as well next season, Samantha and Danielle Anderson, and Wendy Bowman all who were freshman on this years UWS team. All three were members of the 2008 state basketball team from Wrenshall.

“I had it narrowed down to three choices,” Peterson told NSO “it was between UMD, St. Catharine’s, and UWS.” “Coach Mulhern has been visiting for the past two seasons; he made me feel so at ease with UWS.” Peterson stated. “I have met all the girls on the team, I know several of the players and I played AAU ball with a few.”

Peterson, a four year starter for the Rebels earned her 1000th point this season against Barnum and went on to finish her high school career with over 1100 total points. Peterson was a three-time member of the All Polar League Conference Team, and was named to this years Northland Sports Online all area team. Peterson should make an immediate impact next season as the Yellow Jackets are coming off a season where they finished 5-20.

“I liked being able to go to college locally where my parents can come and watch me play” Peterson told NSO, “the other big factor was how UWS seemed more like a close knit college, with smaller classes, and friendly people” Peterson will join fellow Moose Lake -Willow River basketball standout Joey Bohaty next season at UWS as well.

Peterson will spend the summer playing AAU basketball with her AAU Northern Lights team; she will play summer basketball with her new UWS teammates as well. Northland Sports Online would like to wish Peterson all the best in her future as she continues with her basketball career.
