The Moose Lake-Willow River Rebels girl’s softball team started their 2009 softball season on a winning note as they shutout Floodwood 3-0. The Rebels are looking to come out fast this season and they did that Tuesday with the shutout victory.

ML-WR struggled from the plate, only managing three hits, but it was enough as they came away with the victory. The Rebels were looking for some revenge, as last season it was Floodwood coming from behind to defeat Moose Lake-Willow River by a score of 11-10.

Katie Youngberg of ML-WR was the winning pitcher for the Rebels; her record is now 1-0 on the season. Youngberg had nine strikeouts in the victory. Molly Johnsen was the losing pitcher for the Polar Bears. However, the sophomore pitcher finished with ten strikeouts.

Moose Lake Willow River is in action again Thursday as they host Cromwell in Willow River. Floodwood is home on Thursday as they host Esko in a Polar League Conference match-up.
