The Moose Lake – Willow River baseball team started their season on a very positive note Tuesday afternoon in Moose Lake. The Rebels shut out the Floodwood Polar Bears as they won their season opener 10-0 for the second straight season.

The Rebels used fourteen hits for a well-balanced offensive attack against the Polar Bears in the victory. Rudy Ketchum provided an outstanding pitching performance. He went five innings, faced only 18 batters; he struck out five and walked one in the win for the Rebels.

ML-WR scored two runs in the first as Rajean Carlson and Joey Bohaty both singled and scored on hits by Adam Ryan who drove in Carlson, and Spencer Clough¿½¬¢s single drove in Bohaty giving the Rebels a lead 2-0 after one. The second inning saw Carlson starting things with a two-out double, he came in on a single by Bohaty. Dan Anderson then singled and with Runners on the corners, Nate Zuk hit a three-run home run to deep left field and the Rebels led 6-0 after two.

ML-WR scored two more runs in the fourth inning and Bohaty walked and later scored on a Zuk single. Zuk would score later in the fourth as Clough came up with his second hit of the game. The Rebels would impose the 10-run rule in the fifth when Carlson would score on a error committed by Floodwood and Bohaty would score his fourth run of the game on Zuk¿½¬¢s third run batted in of the game to end things.

The Rebels will next face Cromwell at home Thursday afternoon. Floodwood falls to 0-2 on the season and they host Esko on Thursday.
