The Cloquet-Esko-Carlton girls swim team has a new coach and a whole new outlook coming into the fall season. First-year coach Stacia Schacht is a graduate from White Bear Lake high school and then participated in the NCAA Nationals in 2006 while attending college at Wisconsin-Lacrosse.

“I taught swimming lessons throughout college and then I moved to Duluth last year,” said Schacht. “I am still learning the team and who will be our top swimmers, but I think the team overall looks great. I think they all worked hard this summer and I think we are all looking forward to a fun and exciting year.”

Schacht takes over for longtime coach Tone Coughlin who decided not to return this season.
“As a new coach I am sure I am constantly learning and absorbing advice,” remarked Schacht. “I think already we have a great groove at practice going and I hope it keeps up. Everyone in the system has been great to work with so far and I hope the team and I continue to grow together and we get more and more girls who would like to swim.”

Former CEC swimmer, Kayla Cresap, is assisting Schacht this season. Cresap graduated from Cloquet last year and has been helpful in getting things off to a strong start.

Schacht greeted 15 girls to the first practice on Monday, many of whom were on the team in the past and a few new faces as well.
