Hawks Win 21 Team Invite With Tiebreaker

The Hermantown Hawks and Virginia Blue Devils were tied in the Wild Invitational Monday and the team tie would come down to each team’s fifth golfer. That fifth golfer was the Hawks Travis Weiss; Weiss was one shot better than Alex Lackner which allowed the Hawks to claim the 2012 Wilderness Invitational golf meet at The Wilderness Golf Course at the Fortune Bay Casino in Tower.


The Hawks finished with a team total of 319 were tied by the Virginia Blue Devils who also scored a 319, but it came down to the fifth golfer on each team before the champion was declared. The Hawks take the top honors in this 21 team invitational. Alec Odegaard of Grand Rapids was the medalist Monday shooting a 75.


Following Hermantown and Virginia, it was Grand Rapids who came in third and Cloquet-Esko came in fourth with a 342 and tied with Superior. Duluth Denfeld was sixth, Dryden Ontario Canada with seventh, Hibbing was eighth, Eveleth-Gilbert finished in ninth and it was Duluth East coming in tied for 10th with International Falls. Wrenshall was 21st with a 473 on Monday.


Following Odegaard, it was Olaf Walkky from Virginia who finished second. Brett Musich was third with a 78, Hermantown’s Andrew Krasaway and Taylor Sundbom tied for fourth with 79’s, also tied for fourth was Virginia’s Matt Kesanen and Sam Eisenhuth of Northeast Range. Josh Becks of Hermantown was eighth, and there was a five way tie for ninth including Nick Neve from Cloquet-Esko and Trent Sundbom of Hermantown.


Following Neve for Cloquet-Esko was Marc Peterson who shot a 82, Eric Fryc had a 83, Zach Johnson had a 89, and Alex Mackey finished with a 105 Monday. The Wrenshall Wrens top finisher was Garrett Stavang who finished with a 109, Seth Laveau had a 112, Trent Olson shot a 119, Nathan Stojevich had a 133, and Kyle Laveau shot a 150.
