The Moose Lake-Willow River boys and girls golf teams continue to improve as on Monday the Rebels boys golf team defeated Mille Lacs by a score of 151-159 in a dual meet Monday at the Moose Lake Golf Course in Moose Lake.

“This was a big win for us” Head Golf Coach Steve Mokros told Northland Sports Online. “We are the only undefeated team in the Great River Conference, and we are looking to repeat as conference champions once again.” Mokros added “Mille Lacs is a good team with a great golfer in Grant Exsted, who was a state tournament participant a year ago.

Medalist in the boys event was Dan Schultz of Mille Lacs as he shot a 35, one shot ahead of Exsted and Moose Lake-Willow River’s Gabe Douglas, who tied for second with a 36. The Rebels top golfer based on scoring average, Stephen Gassert shot a 37. Nathaniel Koeck finished with a 38 and Jacob Indihar shot a 40 for the Rebels in this dual meet.

“We have such a balanced team” Head Coach Mokros added, “It’s a different golfer every meet that comes through and carries everyone.” Mokros stated “The girls team shot their lowest score ever in my nine years of coaching in the dual meet loss to the Raiders. They lost their last meet by only three shots to the conference favorites Pine City,” Mokros mentioned.

The girls team defeated Mille Lacs by a score of 183-229 on the day. Alexis Babcock of the Rebels was the Medalist Monday by shooting a 44. Lindsey Loehlein and Kayla Larson both came in second with 45’s and it was Samantha Schaumburg closing out the Lady Rebels by shooting a 49.
